Sarah Allen O’Brien (PMHNP)

Sarah Allen O’Brien is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) based in Southeastern Ohio. As an esteemed member of the team at Harmony Psychiatric Services, Sarah works with adults (18+) facing mental health challenges. Sarah provides a safe, relaxed environment and offers a warm, holistic approach to psychiatric medication management, supportive psychotherapy, and other integrative treatment options.

Sarah has a Master’s Degree in Nursing and earned her Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certificate from Ohio University where she is also an Assistant Professor of Instruction. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and experience due to her role in nursing education and mental health.

Sarah specializes in Motivational Interviewing (MI) which is an effective approach in mental health nursing practice. It is designed to enhance motivation to change by helping patients explore and resolve ambivalence. Sarah has had success with this treatment method by working collaboratively with patients rather than taking a direct approach; drawing out the patient’s own motivations for change; and respecting the patient’s autonomy and supporting their ability to make decisions. For patients seeking Christian counseling, Sarah also offers faith based counseling in her practice.

Sarah and her husband planted a non-denominational church in their community in 2006.
